It was the first multi-goal game in Collins' career. The Norwalk High grad had two goals and seven assists last year for Fairfield, helping them to a 14-4-3 record.

“Karolyn has stepped up her game and came through for us today with two great goals from long range,” Coach Jim O’Brien said. “Toward the end of last season, we asked Karolyn to push higher up the field to utilize her speed. And it has paid dividends with loads of production in both goals and assists as well.”

Collins’ first goal came in the 42nd minute when she took a pass from Pam Coufos and struck a long strike from 20 yards out to even the score at 1-1.

Collins converted the first shot attempt by the Stags in the second half when she took a cross from Kelsey Burke and smashed a shot from the middle of the box about 10 yards out.

Fairfield lost its season-opener to Maine, 1-0, before beating Wagner. The Stags return home for a seven-game homestand beginning Friday against Drexel.

Collins was an All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference second team selection last year. She was one-time conference player of the week, and scored the game-tying goal in the league championship game against Monmouth, which ended up winning its second straight league title.

Collins was selected to the league's preseason All-MAAC team. Fairfield was the second choice behind Monmouth in the league preseason poll.

New Canaan's Anna Borea, and Maggie Walsh of Westport (a Staples High graduate) are also members of the Fairfield University women's soccer team.
