FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. The final pieces to the playoff puzzle in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference girls basketball tournament will be solved Wednesday when the teams finish the regular season.
The most important game finds Stamford at Fairfield Warde at 7 p.m. The Mustangs (12-7) and Black Knights (10-9) own 10-7 league records. The winner will make the eight-team conference tournament, and the loser will await the state tournament.
Darien (11-8 overall, 10-7 league) needs to beat winless Bassick to clinch a berth in the league tournament. Staples, also 10-7 in the league, could get in if Bassick upsets the Blue Wave.
Six teams have already clinched berths. Danbury (17-0 in the league) has earned the top seed. Norwalk, Wilton, Trinity Catholic, St. Joseph and Trumbull have also secured playoff berths. The seeds will be determined after Wednesdays games.
Stamford will look to snap Fairfield Warde's 10-game home win streak. Both teams lost Monday in games that could have clinched playoff berths.
The top four seeds host quarterfinal games on Saturday. The semifinals are set for Tuesday at Fairfield Ludlowe, and the championship game is Thursday, also at Fairfield Ludlowe.
