Fairfield County Eagerly Awaits London Olympics

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – The wait is over and Fairfield County residents are ready to watch their favorite sports and athletes go for the gold in the 2012 Summer Olympics. Readers have taken to The Daily Voice's Facebook pages to express their excitement for the London Games, which have their opening ceremony at 7:30 p.m. Friday on NBC.

"I'm excited about watching the games together with my 10 year old," Anne Clampet Alcampora of Stamford said on the Daily Voice's Facebook page. "It's the first time he'll be able to really appreciate them. I've already challenged him to tell me what a decathlon is and tell me who wins gold. I am also excited to see the US Women's soccer team kick butt!"

Christine K. McCloud of Norwalk is "excited about women's basketball with [UConn head coach] Geno [Auriemma] coaching some of his former players."

David Martin of Norwalk is looking forward to "track and field and gymnastics," while Gretchen Cintron of Norwalk is excited for "swimming and women's soccer."

Each Olympics inevitably brings up memories of past Games. Stan Sandair of Greenwich wrote that he is "still bitter over the 1972 men's basketball gold medal game."

The 2012 Olympics will feature unprecedented access for the public to watch every event across multiple platforms. Events will be broadcast on every NBC-owned channel in addition to streaming online, on smartphones and on tablets.
