FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. Two Everton America soccer teams had strong showings in tournaments against some of the top teams from the Northeast.
The under-13 girls squad captured the New England Soccer Classic in Eastham, Mass., while the under-12 boys regional team finished as champions in the YMS Columbus Cup Premier Elite Tournament in Pennsylvania.
The girls went 4-0 to win the Massachusetts tournament, outscoring opponents 14-0. Everton defeated the Tidal Wave RC Swell, 2-0, in the championship game. After beating Foundation SC, 7-0, Everton topped Tidal Wave SC Swell, 2-0, in pool play. Everton blanked Crusaders United White, 3-0, before beating Tidal Wave RC Swell again in the final, with goals from Brittany Boniface, of New Canaan, and Emma ONeill, of Fairfield.
The under-12 boys won three games in bracket play, beating teams from Pennsylvaia before beating Pleasant Valley United of New York, 6-0, in the final. Everton Americas U13 boys regional team was runner up in Pennsylvania and earned themselves an invitation a tournament later this month in which they will play with the top 16 teams in the Northeast.
One of the U13 boys regional players, Chris Watts, has also received an invitation to attend the U.S. National Team Identification training center.
The success at home follows Everton Americas performance in the Foyle Cup in Northern Ireland this summer. The U16 Boys team played academy teams from professional clubs across Europe and the United Kingdom. In the semifinals, the U16 boys team lost the to De La Salle Academy from Liverpool on penalty kicks.
Everton America is also anticipating the visit of Paul Harris, international football development officer for Everton FC in Liverpool. Harris will be working with the teams in winter and spring. Everton America is holding tryouts for its U15-U18 teams on Nov. 19-20.
