East Avenue Pizza Wins in Norwalk Softball

The East Avenue Pizza Shamrocks defeated the Flames, 15-5, in Division 3 action of the Norwalk Athletic Associatoin softball league. Janelle Lauttenbach led the 'Rocks on the mound and at the plate. After giving up 4 runs in the first, she settled down giving up one run the rest of the way, striking out nine, and driving in two with a key hit. Jessica Coulter, Natalie LaBella and Becky Stefanatos each drove in runs with key hits. Crossing the plate were Kalaudia Auz, Taylor Chieffalo, Elizabeth Guillen and Jessica Somma, all with two runs scored, while Kristine Nguyen scored three times. Kelly Hayde made a key defensive play at 2nd base for the Shamrocks.The East Avenue Pizza Shamrocks played Matthew Brovender Law Offices/Anytime Appliance Rockets to an 8-8 tie. Natalie LaBella led the Shamrocks with a double, 2 singles and 2 runs scored. Becky Stefanatos doubled and singled, while Jess Coulter and Julia Yingling added hits. Janelle Lauttenbach pitched well for the 'Rocks, with Kalaudia Auz making a game-saving catch on a long fly ball.For the Rockets, Chelsey Martylewski got the start, striking out three in three innings of work. Amy Alfson smacked a 2-run single and Nikki Bonanni, Isabel Genovese and Leslie Garcia each had hits and scored runs. Ryan Lajoie pitched in relief striking out eight.The Intelisearch/Giglio Electric Warriors rolled to victory over the Flames 14-4. Ashley Pascarelli led the way going 3 for 4 on the night. Rachel Kurtzman, Natalie Barzyk and Mallory Rochefort added two hits apiece. Nicole Chandler and Allison Hall scored all four times on base to help the Warriors secure the victory. Division 2 Angela Mia's Cubs notched a victory against the F.M. Bonaddio Construction Slammers. Cubs pitcher Brianny Garcia received the win with an outstanding effort. The Cubs defense was solid with Brenda Garcia and Kate Webber turning double plays. Offense was provided by sisters Kristin and Jennifer Carriera, and Julia Sferlazza.The Cubs, sponsored by Angela Mia's Bakery, put another one in the win column with a victory against the Red Devils. Brenda and Brianny Garcia combined to turn in an excellent game allowing only four runs. One of the outstanding plays in the game for the Cubs included Brianny Garcia getting out of a rundown to score. The Cubs had hits by Julia Sferlazza, Skylar LaRusso, Catherine Petropoulos, Christy Russo, Kristin and Jennifer Carriera and Annabel Wert.Angela Mia's Cubs enjoyed a walk-off win against the Laurel Athletic Club Dolphins in a makeup game Saturday afternoon. The Cubs played solid defense with Brianny Garcia flashing the leather at shortstop, Brenda Garcia at the mound, Cristina Ferreira in center and Samantha Troetti behind the plate tagging out a runner on a relay from Jennifer Carriera. The bats were on fire with hits coming from Catherine Petropoulos, Julia Sferlazza, Samantha Troetti, Kate Webber, Kristin Carriera, Brianny Garcia and the game winning hit coming off the bat of Cristina Ferreira. Division 1 Rex Marina Bears vs. OilersRex Marina Bears offense was led by Kaitlyn Belinsky and Isabel Anbar each getting base hits in the fourth inning. Ashley Wilson, Jennifer Haller, Mollie Roman, Kate Greco, Emily Virgulak, Kyra Lynn, Sophie Jones, Meredith McDonald and Isabella Bardos all walked. A fine defensive play was made by Delia Jordanides, who made an unassisted put-out at first to end the second inning.Rex Marina Bears vs.PumasThe Bears were shut out by the Pumas. Kyra Lynn and Bridget Stevens each walked twice. Mollie Roman, Emily Virgulak and Delia Jordanides each reached base successfully. Fine defensive plays were made by Emily DiCostanzo at second base and Holly Diomede at first. Kate Greco was strong behind the plate and combined with pitcher Mollie Roman on the mound to get two force outs at home.Rex Marina Bears vs. The Batter's Box WildcatsThe Bears took a tough loss to the Wildcats but fought back with base hits by Holly Diomede, Ashley Wilson, Emily DiCostanzo, Kate Greco and Kyra Lynn. Also reaching base were Jennifer Haller, Isabella Bardos, Sophie Jones, Bridget Stevens and Emily Virgulak. Reaching base more than once and scoring 3 runs for the Bears were Emily Virgulak, Delia Jordanides and Isabel Anbar. Mollie Roman pitched 4 solid innings for the Bears striking out 5 batters and only allowing 4 walks.The Zoto's International Sting vs. The UntouchablesThe Zotos International Sting kicked off the 2011 season with a fine team performance. Kristen Beaumonte and Jenna Lauttenbach led the way on the mound. Hannah Parks sparked the offense going 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored. Kailey Bibber and Jessica Monteiro both had two hits a piece including a double by Monteiro and Katherine Fallon.

The Zotos International Sting vs. The PumasMadyson Suda and Jenna Lauttenbach both played well defensively for The Zotos International Sting. Skyler Suda and Megan Pascarelli led the offense with two hits each including a double by Suda.

The Batter's Box Wildcats vs. The Zoto's International StingKristen Beaumonte put in a stellar performance on the mound and at the plate going 2 for 3 with a home run and 4 RBIs for The Zotos International Sting. Jenna Lauttenbach, Skyler Suda, Julianna Mossip and Abby Lewis had 2 hits each.New England Oil Hawks vs. The Batters BoxWildcats:Emily Pinto had one hit and a good game on the mound. Defensively Jenna Limone, Kate Riordan, and Brynn Spielman played well. Kimberley Thorme scored a run for the Hawks.For The Batter's Box Wildcats, Tina Boyian, Samantha Pierre, Dori Bartush, Jen Garcia, Lila Young, Erica Gigilio, Marion Yingling, Shea Balducci and Daijah Singleton all had hits. Grace Potochney, Jackie Tessier and Carly DeMichael all had a keen eye and were able to reach base. Defensively, Tina Boyian and Sam Pierre made beautiful plays. On the mound, Dori Bartush, Tina Boyian and Mia Lanzurotto combined for 8 Ks.Rex Marina Bears vs. Untouchables:The Bears were shut down by the Untouchables. The only run scored for the Bears was by Meredith McDonald after she walked. Mollie Roman pitched well and struck out two. The highlight of the game was an amazing defensive play by Kate Greco. Playing third with bases loaded, Kate caught a pop up and proceeded to tag two runners for an unassisted triple play. Can anyone say "web gem."The Zotos International Sting vs. The Strawberry Hill Animal Hospital Saints:The Zotos International Sting continue to play solid ball. Jenna Lauttenbach and Kristen Beaumonte both put in good performances on the mound. Krista Perrone and Jackie Derosa played well defensively. Abby Lewis led the offense by going 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored. Skyler Suda, Julianna Mossip, and Megan Pascarelli had 2 hits each.Cathy Colmenares had an RBI double and Elizabeth Simo, Jessica Parker, Riley Page and Noelle Ragusa singles as the Strawberry Hill Animal Hospital Saints battled the Sting. Juliette Garvey, Isabella Vuoso and Jordan Hogan also had RBIs for the Saints. Julia Breen made a key putout in the field.New England Oil Hawks played The Rex Marina Bears:The Oil Hawks' Brynn Spielman had 6 strikeouts on the mound and one hit, Emily Pinto had a great defensive game and had a double and 3 RBIs. Other hitting stars for the Hawks were Kate Riordan, Madeline Riascos, Lauren Mirabella, Kim Thorme, Emily Faroni and Katie DiJoseph with 2 hits. Defensively, Sophia Lindsay, Jenna Limone, Sharon Fernandez and Emily Pollard had good games.The Rex Marina Bears came out swinging for their first win of the season. The third inning opened up with big hits by Ashley Wilson, Jennifer Haller, Mollie Roman, Kate Greco, Isabella Bardos, Bridget Stevens, Meredith McDonald, Holly Diomede and Kaitlyn Belinsky. Pitching was solid with Jennifer Haller, Isabel Anbar, Mollie Roman and Kate Greco each throwing an inning without giving up a run. Fine defensive plays were made by Emily DiCostanzo at first base and Kyra Lynn at second base.Untouchables vs. Strawberry Hill Animal Hospital SaintsMargaret O'Conner had two hits and Michelle Menard, Riley Page, Elizabeth Simo and Noelle Ragusa also provided hits in the Strawberry Hill Animal Hospital Saints' tight tilt against New Canaan's Untouchables. Page was involved in five putouts to pace the defense, which also benefited from fine play from Jolie Lubin, Cathy Colmenares, Carlie LaRochelle and Esabella Troisi.
