Brien McMahon Makes Huge Jump In Football Rankings

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Darien High School retained the No. 1 spot in the state football rankings by MaxPreps, while Brien McMahon and Danbury made big jumps with big victories last weekend.

Darien (6-0) continues to lead the state rankings ahead of Southington, Shelton and New Canaan.

The big mover, however, were the Senators (5-1), who moved up 20 spots with a 49-21 win over Stamford. Danbury (4-2) climbed 12 spots with a 35-24 win over Staples and is now ranked 31st.

McMahon also moved up to No. 6 in the Class LL football rankings. Darien and New Canaan rank second and third, respectively, in Class L. Danbury is ranked No. 9 in Class LL. The top eight teams in each class make the state playoffs.

Darien looked impressive in a  42-0 win over Trinity Catholic, building a 28-0 halftime lead. Quarterback Tim Graham threw for 211 yards and a touchdown. George Reed ran for two scores, and Shelby Grant led a stable of runners with 49 yards on 11 carries. The Blue Wave rushed for 221 yards.
