While Shepard was the General Manager of the Class A Geneva (N.Y.) Cubs in 1988, the Cubs went on a six-game losing streak during the middle of the season, the team said. Shepard made a promise that he would sleep in the press box at McDonough Park, the home stadium of Geneva, until the team won again. Shepard slept in the team’s press box for 12 consecutive nights until the Cubs snapped their 18-game losing streak with a win.

The Bluefish are currently on a 13-game losing streak, which the team said is a season long for the team.

“We have been looking for several different ways to break this losing streak,” said Bridgeport Bluefish Assistant General Manager Jamie Toole. “So we want to honor Ken Shepard by bringing back one his most famous promotions while working in baseball by sleeping in the press box until the team wins a game.”

The promotion will take place until the lead up to Ken Shepard Day on Sept. 14. The game Sunday, Sept. 14 is at 1:05 p.m. against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. It will honor of the team's current General Manager, who is fighting stage four kidney cancer, the team said. Earlier this season, Shepard announced 2014 would be his last as GM, as his battle against cancer continued.

During Ken Shepard Day, the Bluefish will managed by “MLB Hit King” Pete Rose, who will be making his second appearance as manager in the Park City after leading Bridgeport to a 2-0 win over Lancaster on June 16. Bridgeport will also wear special jerseys that will be auctioned off, with the proceeds of the auction going to the Shepard family.
