NORWALK, Conn. Many strong individual as well as team performances highlighted week two of Norwalk Girls Basketball action. The Comets, Monarchs, Lady Stags, Bruins and Tar Heels all remain undefeated.
Division Two (fifth and sixth grade)
Comets 22, Miracle 9: The Kevin Morton Elite Pitcher Training Comets (2-0) took a 12-4 halftime lead and coasted to the easy win. Dina Diblasio led all scorers with 10 points, while Taylor Morton and Natalie Pitteway added 6 each. Bryn Reilly paced the Jordan's Pizza Miracle (1-2) with 7 points.
Monarchs 16, Shock 14: The Sono Seaport Seafood Monarchs (2-0) broke free from a 6-all halftime tie with an 8-4 third quarter advantage to gather their second win of the season. Tamia Fulton scored 10 points to lead the Monarchs while Michelle Perea notched 4 and Angelica De Los Santos scored 2. Jescie Holmes (6 points) and Kathleen Downey (4 points) paced the Shock (0-2).
Monarchs 29, Sun 19: The Monarchs (3-0) won their second game of the weekend, outscoring the Sun 16-9 in the second half. Tamia Fulton tallied 16 points, 12 in the second half, to lead the Monarchs. Michelle Perea added 11 points while Meaghan Joyce scored 2. Carsyn Langhorne led the Dooney and Bourke Sun (1-2) with 6 points, while Sawyer Milillo and Riley Page added 4 points each. Emilee Bach and Ashley Wilson scored 2 each.
Shock 18, Liberty 5: The Shock (1-2) took a 10-3 halftime lead and cruised to an easy win. Ali Walsh led the Shock with 8 points, while Jescie Holmes tallied 4 points. Sabrina Bailon and Kathleen Downey scored 2 points each. Amy Ochoa scored 3 and Camille DeGuzman 2 to lead the King Industries Liberty (0-2).
Division Three (seventh and eighth grade)
Red Storm 37, Hurricanes 6: The Post Corner Pizza Red Storm (2-0) used a 19-2 halftime lead to power to the win. Sydney Barreno tallied 19 points for the winners, while Seena Panagiotidis scored 8. Brianna Meehan, Lilly MacDonald, Denise Mejia and Emily Underwood led the way for the Damato Landscaping Hurricanes (1-1).
Hoyas 31, Spartans 14: The Hoyas (1-1) raced out to a 15-2 halftime lead and never looked back. Asiah Knight pumped in 14 points to pace the Hoyas, while Amanda Beckwith and Kayla Jordan scored 6 apiece. Brianna Fitzgerald led the Sonny and Bill's Sports Spartans with 7 points, while Chelsey Cerrato added 3 and Jada Boggs scored 2.
Lady Stags 41, Huskies 15: The Integrated Sports Training Lady Stags (2-0) jumped out to a 30-6 halftime lead to help gain their second win of the season. Shania Osborne pumped in 22 points, while Arianna Eason added 8 points and Alex Whalen scored 3. The B.T. Canty Law offices Huskies (0-2) were led by Katie Sciglimpaglia (8 points) and Mariah Ventrella (5 points).
Hoyas 46, Hurricanes 10: The Hoyas (2-1) ran up a 30-4 halftime lead in their second one-sided win. Asiah Knight exploded for 28 points, while Amanda Beckwith scored 15. Emily Davis, Vanessa Giraldo, and Whitney Pagano all contributed 2 points each. Lauren Robertson led the Hurricanes (1-2) with 4 points, while Brianna Meehan and Samantha Dube scored 2 apiece.
Division Four (ninth-12th grade)
Tar Heels 48, Blue Wave 28: The Tar Heels (2-0) notched their second win of the season behind the performances of Jovan Kingwood (16 points) and Kayla Croswell (11 points). Aleigh Fitzgerald added 6 points as the Heels broke an 18-all haftime tie. Alexis Noonan paced the East Avenue Pizza Blue Wave (0-1) with 14 points. Alex Weber and Alex Magliulo added 4 points each, while Zayna Fulton scored 2.
Volunteers 57, Eagles 35 : The Volunteers (1-1) grabbed a 28-14 halftime lead and never looked back. Hannah Maatallah pumped in 26 points, 14 in the first quarter, and Haley English scored 12 to lead the Vols. Cori Cannavino added 8 points and Erin Cunningham contributed 5. Jazmine Taylor led the Tom's Auto Driving School Eagles (0-2) with 11 points, while Kyle Courtney scored 10. Kendra Fitzpatrick and Kiara Velez added 5 points each.
Bruins 35, Eagles 32: The Reliable Tree Service Bruins (2-0) prevailed in a seesaw battle to grab their second win of the season. Dominique Carter-Stanley scored 14 to lead the Bruins, while Colleen O'Neill added 11 and Claire O'Neill scored 4. Becky Stefanatos and Mallory Rochefort contributed 3 points each to the winning total. Vicky Aguilar tallied 9 points to pace the Eagles (0-3).
Panthers 47, Blue Wave 28: The Panthers (1-0) opened their season behind the scoring of Katie Schmidt (21 points). Mary Sciglimpaglia and Tunde Johnson tallied 7 points each, while Patty Sciglimpaglia added 5 points. Alexis Noonan led all scorers with 24 points for the Blue Wave (0-2), while Shayna Marko and Alisha Drescher added 2 points each.
