2 Norwalk River Crews Medal at Regionals

Two crews from the Norwalk River Rowing Association won medals at the Northeast Regionals last week in Lowell, Mass. And one earned a trip to the U.S. Rowing Youth Nationals.

The Men's Lightweight 4+ earned a bronze medal with the team of Wilton's David Sullivan, Matt Koenigsberg, Aidan Lane and Matt Stout, and Westport's Krishna Horrigan. They finished in 6:16.06. New Canaan won, followed by Community Rowing of Boston. Another NRRA crew finished fifth.

The third place finish qualified the crew to compete in the U.S. meet next month in Oak Ridge, Tenn. NRRA did not have a boat qualify for last year's U.S. nationals.

The Women's Junior Varsity 8+ took first with the crew of Norwalk's Julia Bar, Wilton's Amanda Jenkins, Siobhan Deacy, Shannon O'Hara, Emily Bazilian and Madeleine Apuzzo, Westport's Hannah Greenberg, Trumbull's Megan Mahoney and Ridgefield's Emma Vergara. Junior varsity crews do not advance beyond regional competition.
