2 Norwalk Packers Teams Play For Conference Titles Sunday

NORWALK, Conn. -- Two Norwalk Packers youth football teams will play for division championships Sunday in the Connecticut Youth Football and Cheer Conference.

The 11-and-under team meets Meriden in the conference title game at noon. The 13-and-under team meets New Britain at 4 p.m. Both games will be played at Brien McMahon.

The 11-year-old team advanced to the title game with a 14-0 win over Danbury. Mysonne Pollard ran 32 yards for Norwalk’s first score, and Justin Oliver added the PAT. Sajan Porter scored Norwalk’s second TD, and Pollard ran for the PAT. Other Norwalk standouts were Jack Cahill, Cam Edwards, Roderick Olson, Matt Claps, Branden Louis, Joey Pacheco, Chase Meyer, Randy Mones, Gabe Beres, DaKari Coleman, Terrence Kitt, Jaylen Carter, Brendan Arroyo, Jonathan Greco and Ryan Mancini. Chip Meyer is the 11-year-old coach.

The 13-and-under team defeated Middletown, 29-0. Jakari Walker, Jeff Cocchia, Tyler Sisko scored touchdowns. Kyle Gordon threw a TD pass to Sisko. Walker also scored on an interception return. Ras Fisher had four receptions, while Jermaine Williams, Jermayne Daniels, Josh Samuels, Mike Propersi. Ryan Whitney, Brian Ehlers and Michael Donahue led the defense. Mike DiIorio is Norwalk’s coach.

Both Norwalk teams are 8-1. Sunday’s games are rematches of games played earlier in the season. The losses to Meriden and New Britain are the only setbacks this season for each of the Packers teams.

Norwalk’s 12-and-under team lost a chance to win its fourth straight championship when it fell to New Britain, 34-8. Khalil Easton scored on a 40-yard run and Nemo Harris added the conversion as the Packers took an 8-0 lead. New Britain tied the game at halftime and took a lead early in the fourth quarter. It added three more touchdowns late in the game.

Norwalk, coached by Bert Borges, finished the season 7-2. Its only losses were to New Britain.
