The event is promoted by the Lightfoot Running Club and The Courage to Speak Foundation.
The race is dedicated to Ian Eaccarino, who died after a drug overdose in 1996. The race is dedicated to his memory, as he worked at the beach the summer before he died and personally planted many of the trees at the beach, according to a foundation press release.
The race is a way to bring the community together while promoting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. Last year, 163 runners participated in the event.
Race sponsors include The Lightfoot Running Club, Norwalk Recreation and Parks Department and Booth Financial Associates. Sponsorships are available at the following levels: platinum ($2,500), gold ($1,000), silver ($500), bronze ($250) and friend of the race ($100).

The Courage to Speak Foundation is a private nonprofit organization founded in 1996 whose mission is to save lives by empowering youth to be drug free and parents to communicate effectively with their children about the dangers of drugs.
