"An integral part of the Wolfpit family, Mrs. Denman truly believed that all students could succeed," Norwalk Public Schools said in a statement.

"In addition to the academic support she provided to students, she was an active part of the school community helping to coordinate Thanksgiving baskets; fulfilling Christmas wish lists for children; and baking monthly birthday cakes for staff. Mrs. Denman will be deeply missed."

Denman is survived by husband Peter, daughter Jennifer and son Peter, a student at Nathan Hale. The district said that information about funeral arrangements will be forthcoming.

"Deepest condolences to the Denman family, and the Wolfpit and Nathan Hale communities."

Social workers and grief counselors are onsite at the school to support students and staff. For information on how to talk to children about death and grief, see this resource provided by the National Association of School Psychologists.
