Audrey Choi’s “Sengil Chuka Hammida” sits among other drawings and paintings made by children from 22 countries and throughout Fairfield County. The drawing, which translates from Korean to “Happy Birthday,” depicts a child sitting by a festive table reflecting the Korean tradition of celebrating a child’s first birthday.

The theme for the 2014 show was "Food for Thought" and children ages 8-12 were asked to illustrate a traditional value or belief. Kids were also asked to show food being cultivated, prepared or eaten.

Countries represented in the gallery include China, Poland and Uganda. The works of children from schools throughout Fairfield County were also featured.

Daniel Brennan of Cloonan Middle School in Stamford created “i-dinner,” which expresses Americans’ ability to order food at the press of a few buttons on a smartphone. Victoria Silva-Meza of Side-by-Side School in Norwalk made “My Kitten Leo,” which portrays a family trip to an ice cream parlor following the death of a pet cat to portray the value of finding comfort in food.

This particular gallery is open free and displayed at the Maritime Aquarium’s IMAX Theater lobby.

It is presented by Creative Connections, a cultural exchange organization. Exhibit sponsors include the Fairfield County Bank and Peralta Design, with support from the Department of Economic and Community Development and the Connecticut Office of the Arts.
