The Norwalk Public School District announced the death of long-time West Rocks employee Marcia Cappo.

"It is with great sadness and regret that we share the passing of longtime West Rocks employee, Marcia Cappo," the district said in a Facebook post. "Mrs. Cappo passed away peacefully this morning after a long illness."

Cappo began her tenure in the West Rocks main office in 2004 and resigned in December due to her illness.

"Mrs. Cappo was a loving, caring, empathetic, patient and kind individual, who greeted West Rocks families with grace and thoughtfulness," the district said. "An active part of the school’s culture, she facilitated the creation of the West Rocks newsletter, and helped with translations. She also attended school dances, and responded to whatever was asked of her with joy. Mrs. Cappo will be greatly missed."

The district offered condolences to the Cappo family and the West Rocks community.

She is survived by husband Thomas, and children Gabriella, Chloe, and Thomas. Funeral arrangements are pending.

Trained personnel were onsite at the school to support staff and students.
