NORWALK, Conn. – A couple of dozen students at Silvermine Elementary School in Norwalk had to wear their coats inside the building Monday and part of Tuesday because of a malfunctioning heating unit, according to school district officials.

Five of the school’s classrooms were without heat, said interim Superintendent Tony Daddona. But crews worked Monday and Tuesday and had the problem fixed by about 11 a.m. Silvermine School, located at 157 Perry Ave., has nearly 450 students. But the heating problem did not affect the whole school.

The cause of the malfunction was not disclosed. But recent storms had knocked out power to various parts of the city, including some streets in Silvermine, which could have played a factor in the shut down of the heater.
