Dylan McCormick and Tess Haskel, both 13, have entries in the 19th International Children’s Art Exhibit, which is running through Sept. 1.

The exhibit is free and is displayed in The Maritime Aquarium’s IMAX Theater lobby, which can be entered without paid admission. The theme of the 2015 show is “Picture the Moment.”

The drawings and paintings were created by children in grades three to 12, who were asked to draw and paint pictures that "thoughtfully capture a moment depicting one's ethnic and cultural identity."

In “Super Bowl,” McCormick drew a football-stadium scene, with the arm of a player holding up the Lombardi Super Bowl trophy.

“The value I am depicting is the importance to keep trying,” he wrote. “If you do, you will succeed.”

In “The Mountain Life,” Haskel chose to draw an activity her family does each weekend in winter: skiing down Stratton Mountain.

“I am depicting the value of spending time with my family and it is important to me to share this because, to me, it is part of my culture,” she wrote.

Generally, the exhibit proves that moments or topics chosen as meaningful by Connecticut students – family, friends, traditions, faith and activities – are similarly important to children around the globe. Pieces are included from 20 countries, including Uganda, Nigeria, Japan, Jordan, Cyprus, Russia, China, Sri Lanka and Brazil.

Previously during the school year, the pieces made by American students were exchanged with art by the students from overseas, allowing insights into their partners' cultures.
