NORWALK, Conn. -- Norwalk’s Fury Fighters took first place in the FIRST Lego League Regional tournament held Saturday, Nov. 16.
Teams in the regional competition had to accomplish a series of tasks, including designing a robot and completing an obstacle course.
In addition, teams were required to research and present solutions for what can be done when natural disasters hit places where people work, play and live.
The team, with members from Norwalk and New Canaan, developed a watertight electrical outlet box called the Waterbox 2012, which was inspired by the devastating effects of Super Storm Sandy in 2012. Students contacted various experts in the electrical engineering field to design the watertight box.
The Fury Fighters includes six students from four schools: Grant Sattler (fourth grade, Rowayton School), David Gonzalez (sixth grade, Roton Middle School), Casey McCall (sixth grade, New Canaan Country School), Jack Ferm (sixth grade, New Canaan Country School), Cole Paynter (sixth grade, St. Aloysius School) and Chris Mancini (sixth grade, St. Aloysius School).
With the first place finish, the Norwalk Fury Fighters advance to the State Finals, which will be held Saturday, Dec. 7.
