Wednesday will be a staggered entry day for students. Half of all kindergarten students will report to school, and families will have received information from the district about which students report.
Grades 1 through 5 in the elementary schools and grade 6 in the middle schools will report Wednesday, as will grades 9 and 12 at Brien McMahon High School and grade 9 at Norwalk High School.
All students in grades 1 through 12 will report to school Thursday, as will half of kindergarten students.
Norwalk teachers gathered at Brien McMahon High School on Monday for the annual convocation. District officials highlighted some of the changes made over the summer, including new world language, social studies and language arts curriculum, as well as the hiring of new teachers and administrators.
The district has also budgeted $2.6 million for security improvements, and will have seven school resource officers in the schools. Among the capital improvements are a new computer lab at Ponus Ridge Middle School that was donated by NBA player Ray Allen's Ray of Hope Foundation.

Officers are conducting zero-tolerance speed enforcement throughout the city as part of the department's Back to School Slow Down Days. Drivers should use extra caution, never pass a stopped school bus and obey all school crossing guards.
"Especially over the next several weeks, as children, parents, and bus drivers are getting used to new routines, use an overabundance of caution on Norwalk's roads," Norwalk police said in a statement. "Give yourself a little more time in the mornings and evenings, take that deep breath when you get behind the wheel, and enjoy watching the smiling faces of Norwalk's school children as they begin their new year."
