Norwalk Students Collect 11,000 Books for Charity

NORWALK, Conn. – Ten Brien McMahon High School seniors collected more than 11,000 books as part of the national “Epic Book Drive” in hopes of winning a scholarship.

The books were gathered from family members, friends, teachers, local libraries, tag sales and local schools, to name only a few of the sources. The drive is sponsored by DoSomething.org, a national program that allows students under 25 to compete for grants or scholarships to complete projects.

Book drive entrants are eligible for a group grant of $10,000 or $1,000 per person.

The McMahon students formed their books into a sculpture for a photo to send to DoSomething.org. Once they were collected they were loaded into a truck to be doated to Vietnam Veterans of America.
