Norwalk Schools Will Open On Wednesday

NORWALK, Conn. - After being closed for more than a week due to Hurricane Sandy and its aftermath - and the Tuesday election - Norwalk public schools will open on schedule Wednesday.

Interim Superintendent Tony Daddona made the decision Tuesday afternoon and placed an announcement on the school system's website. Concerns over the arrival of a potential nor'easter gave the school system pause, but the storm is not slated to adversely affect the weather in the city until after school buses complete their afternoon rounds on Wednesday.

Officials said they did not want to put students at risk by busing them home during the expected high winds and rain on Wednesday. Additionally, not all of Norwalk's roads were cleared of fallen trees, wires and debris until Tuesday.

"All roads are cleared and passable," Mayor Richard Moccia said in a statement Tuesday. "School will be open. Plan on a full day of school tomorrow."

Daddona said the school system used up five of its snow days by closing during the storm, and the school system has five more days left before it could impact the schedule.

"Let's hope it's a warm winter and no snow," he said.
