NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk Board of Education launched an online survey Friday to help in the search for a new school superintendent.
The survey, part of the district's promise to reach out to residents for input, is located on the school system’s website. It asks respondents to identity several attributes – or criteria – the district should consider when choosing a new superintendent.
The survey was developed by PROACT Search, the Illinois-based company the school system hired to oversee the search.
“The Board and the Superintendent Search Committee are very interested in receiving community input on the desired characteristics of the next Norwalk Superintendent of Schools,” Board of Education Chair Michael Lyons said in a statement.
Created earlier this month, the 10-member Superintendent Search Committee will hold meetings with residents and parents in the coming weeks to hear what people want in a new superintendent. Meetings are expected to start in February. The dates and locations will be announced later this month.
Tony Daddona is the district’s interim superintendent, taking over last summer for Susan Marks, who resigned under a cloud when the school system suffered a multi-million-dollar shortfall.
“The broader the public participation we can generate in this process, the more successful our search will be,” Lyon said, adding that the committee will make a point to reach out “to the minority and non-English speaking communities in Norwalk, and to Norwalk students as well.”
