Flags have been lowered to half staff throughout Norwalk since the weekend.

Tony Daddona, interim schools superintendent, said in a statement that parents who notice their children “expressing increased sadness, fear or anxiety” should contact their children’s school to “make sure that our Pupil Personnel Staff are able to offer support and guidance.”

Norwalk police increased security at all Norwalk schools on Friday afternoon and will continue their added presence through the week. Additionally, Norwalk Mayor Richard Moccia was scheduled to visit schools throughout the city Monday.

“It is important for us to remember that every school in Norwalk has a detailed safety plan,” Daddona said in a statement. “Today and going forward, we will continue to follow these plans in our schools and to review with staff members the practices that are designed to maximize safety.”
