Norwalk Schools Hires New Chief Talent Officer

NORWALK, Conn. — Cherese D. Chery was recently appointed to the position of chief talent officer for Norwalk Public Schools by the Norwalk Board of Education.

A strategic human resources leader with experience in both the public and private sectors, Chery is currently the chief talent/human resources officer for New London Public Schools. 

In her current role, she advises the New London superintendent and senior leaders on talent and labor strategies, with a focus on enhancement of staff quality and performance accountability. Her responsibilities include developing and driving recruitment strategies, ensuring that talent systems are efficient and effective, and overseeing employee policy and labor relations strategies. 

Chery is also charged with overseeing, developing and launching innovative programs and systems in recruitment, hiring and selection; staffing and deployment; information and technology; compensation and benefits; and performance management and career development for all positions in the organization. 

Before serving in New London, Chery was director of human resources for the State Education Resource Center in Middletown. Other prior experience includes human resource roles at Comcast, Hartford Hospital, Talent Fusion, Injectronics and APW Wright. 

Chery earned an MBA with a concentration in human resource management and labor relations from the New York Institute of Technology, and a bachelor of science in business administration from Fitchburg Mass. State College. 

Her professional affiliations include the Society for Human Resources Management, the National Association of Black School Educators and the Connecticut Association of School Personnel Administrators. She has been a member of the Connecticut Minority Teacher Recruitment Committee since 2013.
