NORWALK, Conn. – A memorial service was held at Norwalk's West Rocks Middle School Wednesday for former teacher Carla Mortelliti.

The 50-year-old Wilton resident died last Aug. 24 of a bee sting.

Students, family and community members joined together Wednesday morning to dedicate a bench in Mortelliti's honor.

The school collected money to place the pink granite bench in the school’s Peace Garden. It is decorated with flowers and horses and bears a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson: “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”

Jose E. Torres, Mortelliti’s husband, her parents, sister and one of her brothers attended the ceremony. Students and staff read inspirational words.

Afterward, those who organized the ceremony placed white roses on the bench.
