Norwalk Pupils Salute Veterans Day

NORWALK, Conn. — Parents and other family members who now or once served in the military joined the children at Norwalk's All Saints Catholic School on Friday help them commemorate Veterans Day.

Activities included a prayer service, an assembly and classroom visits from veterans. "Students were asked to invite veterans into their classrooms to speak. Parents, grandparents and friends were happy to come and share their experiences with our students," Sister Sally Norcross, vice principal, said in a statement.

One such parent was Staff Sgt. John Mangan of the Connecticut Army National Guard. Mangan, whose daughter Ellie is a third-grader at All Saints, visited all of the classrooms in uniform and shared his experiences of serving in the military since 1989.

"We had veterans from World War II, Korea, Vietnam and Afghanistan visit our school today," said Norcross. "We are so grateful for their sacrifice. It is an important reminder and lesson for our students. Our own chaplain, Monsignor Joseph Kohut, is a veteran of World War II and the Korean War."
