Marvin Elementary School students don't have to go far to buy their Mother's Day gifts. A florist set up shop in front of their school Thursday so the kids can buy a plant for their moms. First-graders Jack Gifford and Lorenzo Zullo were eying the petunias for their mothers. "I've already made her a card," said Jack.

The plants are supplied by Springdale Florist in Darien, owned by Marvin parents Tom and Debby Doyle. A percentage of the sales go the school's PTO. The sale is on all day Friday, as well.

Students can also buy plants and flowers for their teachers -- this is National Teacher Appreciation Week.  Earlier this week, Lorenzo and Jack decorated their teacher Mrs. Lamb's classroom with balloons and star streamers. The entire class made her a book with thoughts about their teacher.  "You make me feel special and you taught me to read better," wrote Lorenzo on his page of the collaborative gift.
