NORWALK, Conn. – Lori Keegan of Norwalk organized a fundraiser through Peachwave Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt to go toward implementing a “buddy bench” at Cranbury Elementary School to honor the late Bart Palosz.
Palosz was a 15-year-old Greenwich High School student who took his own life last year after the first day in his sophomore year. His family blamed his suicide on the constant bullying he had endured over many years.
Keegan said when she heard his story, she wanted to help prevent such extreme bullying from happening to others.
“How can this happen?” she said. “How was it that kids can be so mean to hurt his feelings? I knew in my heart I wanted to do something."
Peachwave donated 10 percent of its profits from the evening of Friday, Sept. 20, to the buddy bench project. The bench will be placed at the elementary school in order to remind others of the dangers of bullying.
Keegan has also contacted other organizations to “raise awareness on bullying prevention in schools in memory of Bart Polosz,” she said. “The buddy bench will teach kids to make a friend,be a friend and reach out to someone who has no one to play with.”
