NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk officials have begun to increase security at all city schools following Friday’s mass murders at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown.

Additional police officers were stationed at schools early Monday for opening, and officers will be on-hand at closing, according to Norwalk Police Chief Thomas Kulhawik. There will also be an increased presence in and around schools during the day.

The increased presence will be in effect this week, but officials did not state whether that presence will continue after this week.

Mayor Richard Moccia was planning to visit several Norwalk schools Monday.

An increased police presence will also be on-hand during the upcoming holiday concerts at Brien McMahon and Norwalk high schools, according to Kulhawik.

The increased police presence will be addition to the resource officers already assigned to both high schools.
