NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk High School Marching Bears won their second straight Musical Arts Conference competition by edging rival Trumbull Saturday at Naugatuck High School.
This win capped off what was a marathon day of practice, exhibition and competition. Members of the Marching Bears began practice at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. The squad practiced at its home field, and then packed gear and instruments early in the afternoon for a crosstown ride to Brien McMahon, where the Bears performed in an exhibition.
After performing at McMahon, Norwalk hit the road to Naugatuck The Bears performed sometime after 8 p.m. -- almost 12 hours after they started their grueling day.
Norwalk posted a winning total of 82.7, compared to 82.0 for Trumbull. Norwalk added music and visual awards for the second straight week.
Norwalk will play at halftime of Friday's home football game, and then head to Trumbull Saturday for another Musical Arts Conference event.
Norwalk hosts a conference event Nov. 2. The season-ending conference championships are Nov. 9 in Bridgeport.
