“Now I want you to take a moment and look at the person you see in that photo. Who are they? What does that person stand for? What makes them authentic?” Hogan said.

Hogan encouraged her classmates to live their lives and do good in the world, rather than concern themselves with posting photos and statuses on social media.

“Do not let yourself by defined by the number of likes you receive, because in the end, the only like that matters is your own,” she said.

It was one of several messages of inspiration bestowed upon more than 350 graduating students.  Principal Reginald Roberts, Mayor Harry Rilling and Board of Education member Artie Kassimis all offered words of praise for the students and encouraged them to be appreciative of the help they have received along the way and to do good in the world.

Class President William Passero and Hogan’s fellow Valedictorian Daniel Lott looked back on favorite memories that the students shared through their educational journeys, and wished their classmates good luck on the road ahead.
