NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk High School’s Governance Council is hosting its first-ever Info Expo in the school's cafeteria on Wednesday, March 23.

The Info Expo will showcase local organizations who provide services to youth and families. Each organization will have its own table, and visitors are encouraged to visit each table to learn about what they offer.

This free event is open to families and students in the Norwalk High School district and is geared toward students and families in Norwalk High School, Nathan Hale Middle School and West Rocks Middle School.

At the end of the expo, visitors are invited for a short musical performance in the school auditorium.

“The idea for this event came about because the Governance Council wanted to do something tangible so that all students have the support to succeed,” said Governance Council parent representative Gloria Tenofsky.

Norwalk Public School’s School to Career Coordinator, Lisa Rivieccio is thrilled with the response to date.

“We’ve had 29 organizations tell us they will participate," Rivieccio said. "The Norwalk Public Library, Stepping Stones Museum, Mid-Fairfield Child Guidance, Kids in Crisis, Human Services Council in addition to student groups and clubs are just a sample of those attending. We are excited about this event and truly believe it will help our families make connections to local resources.”

The Norwalk High School Governance Council is comprised of students, parents, teachers and community members. Reginald Roberts, NHS principal, is also a member of the council.

School Governance Councils were created by the state’s recent education reform law (Public Act 10-111) to enable parents, school staff, students and community leaders to work together to improve student achievement.

School Governance Councils serve in an advisory capacity and are charged with assisting the school administration in making programmatic and operational changes to improve the school’s achievement.

The Info Expo will be from 6 - 8 p.m.
