Last year’s event brought together more than 20 teams of adults and high school students, as well as teachers, Common Council members, local businesses and members of the Norwalk courthouse.

This is a lively fundraiser meant for families to enjoy, the foundation said. The participants dress up in team costumes and are cheered on by their fans.

The money is raised primarily through  sponsors and the entry fee for teams, NEF Executive Director Gloria Tenofsky said.

The cost to enter a three-member team is $150. The majority of the teams are sponsored by a PTO or a business. The foundation hopes to attract more than 30 teams for this year’s event. Some changes are made from last year to make the event more accessible to families and more attractive to participants.

Instead of selling tickets to all attendees, there will be a suggested donation of $5 per family. The foundation also added “spell checks” and “2nd chances” for each team to purchase to extend their stay in the competition. According to the foundation, those extras will work like insurance for the teams.

Last year's master of ceremonies Harry Carey, director of external affairs for AT&T, will return in the same role. John Dunsmore, owner of several local Robeks, will join Carey as the “Pronouncer."
