The grant will enable NEF to further its mission of supporting excellence and innovation in Norwalk Public Schools. Funds are earmarked for operating support and classroom innovation grants.

“We appreciate Fairfield County’s Community Foundation for both their financial support and their role as trusted advisor,” said NEF Executive Director Gloria Tenofsky. “The Norwalk Education Foundation is especially grateful for the general operating support. Our unique role in the community to form partnerships and develop programs and projects is time-intensive, and we appreciate that FCCF supports this critical work.”

The Norwalk Education Foundation focuses on technology education for teachers, classroom innovation, community outreach and college readiness. Research shows that teacher effectiveness is the critical factor in student performance, and NEF believes teacher training is a key component.

“NEF funds Tech Coaches in all 19 schools," Tenofsky said. "They are provided with training on collaborative learning tools like Google Apps for education as well as the online student data collection system (PowerSchool). Tech Coaches then provide training to their colleagues.”

NEF raises funds through grants, individual donors and events. Its next event is the Community Spelling Bee on April 9.
