NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk schools could open Aug. 28 and 29 next year under a proposal being considered by the Norwalk Board of Education.
The plan calls for a staggered start, beginning Aug. 28. Half of the district’s kindergarten students, all of grades 1-5, all of grade 6, grades 9-12 at Norwalk High School and grade 9 at Brien McMahon High School would start on the 28th. The remaining students would start on the 29th.
The board is slated to discuss the measure Tuesday night.
The final day of school, barring weather or other delays, would be June 12, 2014.
Days off would include Labor Day, which falls on Sept. 2, Rosh Hashanah on Sept. 5, Columbus Day on Oct. 14 and Election Day on Nov. 5.
The Holiday break would run from Dec. 23 to Jan. 1, and the Winter Recess, which was canceled this year due to delays caused by Hurricane Sandy, would run Feb. 14 to 18. Spring Recess would be April 14 to 18.
