The college was one of four higher education institutions nationwide to receive a $500 Innovation Through Collaboration Grant Award for Service-Learning projects from the kynamatrix Research Network.

kynamatrix is a nonprofit organization dedicated to “accelerating innovation through collaborative research,” according to a press release from Norwalk Community College.

The other three winners were Broward College, Florida Atlantic University, and Delgado Community College.

The Norwalk Community College pantry, which opened Feb. 11, allows current students to receive 20 free grocery items each month.

A Stop & Shop in Wilton recently donated 354 items to the pantry.

The Norwalk Symphony Orchestra and Norwalk Youth Symphony also held a food drive at their March 8 concert.

“Their drive resulted in 106 pounds of food for the NCC Food Pantry and for this we are incredibly grateful,” said organizer Rachael DiPietro, a Norwalk Community College graduate and the Connecticut Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA representative on campus.

“This is a partnership we hope to continue in the future.”
