Norwalk College Honors Nelson Mandela With Food Drive, Movie

NORWALK, Conn. -- Norwalk Community College officials invite all to participate in honoring Nelson Mandela with a food drive that culminates on July 18 -- Mandela's birthday -- with a special screening of a film about his life.

July 18 was declared international Nelson Mandela Day by the United Nations to honor the human rights and social justice work of South Africa's former president. 

The film will be shown at 1 p.m. at the college, 188 Richards Drive, Norwalk. Titled "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom," it is based on Mandela's 1995 autobiography, and was adapted by William Nicholson and stars Idris Elba and Naomie Harris.

Food drive donations can be placed in labeled boxes in the main lobbies of East Campus and West Campus through July 18. Donations will be distributed to the college's Food Pantry and Open Door Shelter in Norwalk.
