NORWALK, Conn. – Back-to-school time is a big deal for most children and parents, and this year Norwalk ACTS is helping to make going back to school even more fun.

The group, along with Mayor Harry Rilling and Norwalk Public Schools Superintendent Manuel J. Rivera, will be hosting a celebration from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, for parents, educators and students of all ages at Stepping Stones Museum for Children.

Those who attend the celebration will have the opportunity to meet Rilling, Rivera and Norwalk ACTS members, and will have the opportunity to learn about the resources available for children and parents. Guest readers will read to the students, and local authors will attend as well.

The event will also include giveaways, a free book from Norwalk Reads!, and discounted dinner available in the museum’s café. Norwalk Reads!, National Legacy Group and GE Capital’s donations have helped make the back-to-school event possible.

Admission is free as part of the Open Arms initiative at Stepping Stones, is a monthly evening program that involves parent workshops, traveling exhibits for schools, and many other education experiences to inspire learning for a lifetime. Open Arms helps more than 60,000 children, teachers and caregivers per year in the region.

Stepping Stones is a nonprofit children’s museum at 303 West Ave. It is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday, from Labor Day to Memorial Day. Admission is $15 for adults and children, $10 for seniors and free for children under 1.
