The long-planned projects call for the building of additional classrooms at both sites, and combined they are expected to cost about $11.8 million.
Combined the two projects are slated to receive about $2.8 million in state reimbursements.
New additions are scheduled to be built at both schools, each with four new classrooms. The Naramake addition, which would contain a large storage area to take advantage of the sloping ground at the site and other upgrades, would be built near King Street and Strawberry Hill Avenue.
The larger Rowayton School addition would also include a new gym designed for elementary school students and new music and art rooms, among other upgrades.
According to Alan Lo, the city’s building and facilities manager, the Rowayton project contains a host of other potential improvements, some of which will be included depending on how much money is left over.
“In addition to the basic scope of work, we are including the following needed work as alternate items to the bidding documents: renovation of three additional restrooms, replacement of asphalt shingle roof at the ‘B’ Wing and hazardous material window abatement,” said Lo in a letter to the board and other city officials.
If the board approves the projects Tuesday night, the city could bid it out during the summer, and Lo expects construction at both sites be “substantially completed by September 2014.”
Tuesday’s meeting is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. in the Common Council Chambers of City Hall, 125 East Ave.
