Larry Mastrota usually leaves for work before his son, Alex, wakes up. On Thursday, however, Larry took the day off and spent the morning with his kindergartner at "Dad and Donuts", a Columbus Magnet Elementary School PTO event in which kids and their dads have breakfast together at the school.
"It was good to spend quality time with Alex and get to know his classmates and say hello to his teacher," Mastrota says. Nearly 70 families attended the first event of its kind at the school. "We wanted to get more dads involved in the school," says Jim Napoli, co-president of the Columbus PTO. "We saw lots of dads shaking hands and kids with big smiles."
