Connecticut Students Score Well On ACT Exams

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Connecticut students who took the ACT exams scored well above the national average in all four subjects of English, reading, math and science, according to the results of the ACT College Readiness Benchmarks.

Results show that more than 11,500 students, or 27-percent of the graduating class, took the ACT exams in Connecticut.

Eighty-six percent of Connecticut students met college readiness benchmarks in English; 66 percent met the benchmark in reading; 68 percent met the benchmark in mathematics; and 56 percent met the benchmark in science, according to the results.

Additionally, 46 percent of Connecticut students met the benchmark in all four subjects -- a three-point increase from last year, ACT test results said. The national average was 26 percent.

Connecticut's scores were higher than the national average of 64 percent in English, 44 percent in reading and mathematics and 36 percent in science.

A further 6 percent of Connecticut students in English, 12 percent in reading, 8 percent in math and 17 percent in science scored within two points of the benchmark.
