Brien McMahon High School Ranks Among Connecticut's Best

NORWALK, Conn. -- Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk was ranked among the best in Connecticut by U.S. News & World Report in rankings released Tuesday morning.

Brien McMahon was the 12th-highest ranked high school in all of Fairfield County, and came in as the 41st-best in the state.

Brien McMahon's student population of 1,657 met or exceeded the state average in all of the surveys major metrics, which included: College readiness, mathematics proficiency and English proficiency. The school also boasts an Advanced Placement participation rate of 38 percent. 

Several other high schools in Fairfield County were ranked in the Top 50 in the state, including:

  • Weston (No. 5)
  • Staples (No. 7)
  • Darien (No. 8)
  • Wilton (No. 9)
  • Ridgefield (No. 11)
  • Joel Barlow (No. 13)
  • Greenwich (No. 14)
  • New Canaan (No. 15)
  • Fairfield Ludlowe (No. 24)
  • Fairfield Warde (No. 30)
  • Westhill (No. 32)
  • Brien McMahon (No. 41)
  • Academy of Information Technology & Engineering (No. 43)

Honors for the top ranked high school in the Nutmeg State went to the Connecticut International Baccalaureate Academy in East Hartford.
