NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Education Foundation received a $5,000 grant from the BJ’s Charitable Giving Foundation to support professional development for teachers in Norwalk Public Schools as they transition onto the Common Core State Standards Go Math curriculum.
Norwalk has been implementing the Go Math curriculum in all 12 schools over the last two years.
Norwalk Public School’s math specialist Craig Creller says the grant will help the five teachers working to implement the program achieve success faster.
"These teachers work full-time teaching all day and use prep periods and before and after school time to assist their peers," Creller said in a statement. "While this has been a huge help with the logistics of the new program, these teachers are not able to “coach” actual lessons during the day; and coaching is the current and future need as we move forward with the Common Core State Standards in Norwalk.”
