Wilton Agent Sets Up Own Brokerage

Dagny Eason reckons she has entrepreneurial genes. How else to explain her enthusiasm for looking round corners and finding new directions? Her latest venture is her own real estate brokerage company, Dagny’s Real Estate .

Dagny is a first generation American, daughter of Norwegians who met here in the United States during World War II. “My parents were both entrepreneurs,” she says, as are her three children, all of whom grew up in Wilton. Daughter Wendy owns a sea-kayaking business with her husband in Alaska. “In the winter they live totally off the grid in Montana,” Dagny says. Son Johnny lives in San Francisco where he runs a dog washing business, Wags, and a growing real estate empire. Kristi, the youngest, teaches Kindergarten in Los Angeles.

Dagny’s sense of adventure started early. “I wanted to travel,” she says. “I was a stewardess with TWA and traveled all over Europe.” Kirk Eason, her husband, succeeded in grounding her and they set up home in Wilton. They’ve lived in town for 38 years. “I stayed home with my kids,” she says, but as soon as Kristi started school, Dagny began looking for something to fill her days.

Dagny’s Kiddie Care started as a part-time baby-sitting service to fill a need she saw in the community. “I belonged to baby-sitting co-ops,” she says, adding that they never seemed to work. Within two months of setting up her shingle, she found herself turning moms away. “It was a perfect job. I had the space and I had all the toys from my kids,” Dagny explains. “And what’s more fun than kicking a soccer ball around with a bunch of three-year-olds?” After 20 years, Dagny decided to call it quits and sold the business to one of her assistants. And that’s how she got into real estate.

“The teacher who bought my business wanted to buy a home,” she explains, “but the realtor she was working with was away every time she had a question.” Dagny reckoned she could do a better job herself, so she got her real estate license and started working. On February 1st, 2011 Dagny set up her new shingle. She’s excited. “I’ve always loved houses and people,” she says. And she has big plans. She plans to expand beyond Fairfield County into the rest of Connecticut.

There’s another thing Dagny loves. Competitive sport. “I play on three different tennis teams, and I’m on the Wilton Riding Club paddle team,” she says. She’s a decent golfer, too, but only plays when she’s invited. “No-one would be ashamed to have me on the course,” she adds. I think that’s a hint.
