Small Fairfield Colonial Packs Big Punch

I found an adorable house at a Fairfield open house this past weekend that would be just perfect for downsizers or first-time buyers. The house was originally built in 1940 but it’s been totally updated. An addition at the back of the house has left the classic colonial façade intact while making room for a master bedroom suite upstairs and a family room on the first floor.

There’s a lot packed into this home’s 1,600 square feet. The front door opens into an cozy sitting room, which leads to a brand new kitchen with granite counters. I liked the way all the rooms lead into each other. Beyond the kitchen is a large family room with wall-mounted television and loads of playroom space. French doors lead out to a large wooden deck that looks out over the marshland.

The level back yard is fenced and there’s plenty of room for a swing set. It’s also perfect for a vegetable garden – there will be plenty of sun here if it ever stops snowing.

Upstairs you’ll find a master suite with a great bathroom and a walk-in closet which doubles as a home office. Whoever designed the layout did an amazing job cramming so much into so little space. I was impressed. There are two more bedrooms and a hall bathroom.

224 Riverside Drive in Fairfield is in a family neighborhood, close to the supermarket and with easy access to the Interstate. Asking price is $639,000.
