Realtor Helps Kids Shine on Stage

Marje Tracy loved her career as an actress in musical theater in Manhattan. But when she found herself a single mom of three little girls she realized that her life would have to take a different path.  Her first step was moving to Easton, Connecticut.

“After I got divorced I worked for Enzo Angiolini, you know – 9 West, the shoes? He was a lovely Italian gentleman.  Then I got a job at Golf Digest,” Marje said, “But I had to support my daughters and needed to make a better living.” Marje’s solution to this quandary was to talk to as many CEOs in Stamford as would see her, and ask their advice. The consensus was that she would be a star in commercial real estate.

“I realized pretty quickly that this was not for me – it was too impersonal. I wanted to work with families, so I moved into residential real estate,” she continued. It wasn’t long before home buyers and sellers were seeking her out not just in Easton, at her office with RE/MAX , but all over Fairfield County.

“I love Easton, especially the privacy of living in a house with acreage.  I’ve also spent an enormous amount of time in Fairfield because my daughters took hours and hours of dance classes there,” she said.

All that time in Fairfield led her to the Rotary Club, where she has also served as president. And it was as a Rotarian that she found herself reconnecting with the theater. The Rotary Club sponsored the Fairfield Follies Foundation , an organization that brings inner city and suburban high schoolers together in an annual musical review. Marje is its president and executive director. “This program is amazing because it enables kids from inner city neighborhoods to explore music and acting in a semi-professional environment. They have so much talent.”

Because Marje sells many high-end homes she recently attended a seminar to earn her Certified Luxury Specialist certificate. “I was out of town for two days,” she said, sadly, “and I got a call from my daughter. My life changed in an instant.” Marje’s partner had died of a massive heart attack in his sleep. “I am just so unbelievably sad. I’m coping with his loss by working as hard as I can.  It’s the best therapy for me.”

There’s no shortage of work at the moment in Easton. Marje notes that there are about 90 active listings in her town with eight currently under contract.
