On Tuesday, Feb. 28, students at Diggs Elementary School in Waldorf notified school staff members that a 9-year-old student was in possession of a knife after making threats toward another member of his class.

Administrators were able to quickly step in, and the School Resource Officer (SRO) assigned to the building was able to recover an X-Acto knife from the child, according to a spokesperson from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials noted that the student cannot be charged in Maryland due to his age; however, the SRO notified the Charles County Department of Juvenile Services to have the incident on record. Any discipline will be handed out by Charles County Public Schools.
