Bobby Dawson, 31, got the sentence in exchange for a guilty plea to armed hijacking, conspiracy and a shooting during one of the holdups.

It was the same deal obtained by accomplice James “Rhino” Darby in July.

The March 13, 2013 holdup in Paramus was one of a spree of armed robberies of pharmacies, sandwich shops and other small businesses committed by the crew in Bergen, Hudson, Essex and Union counties, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman said.

In 15 of the 17 robberies, Dawson and his conspirators used zip-ties or duct tape to restrain their victims before taking cash, cigarettes and other items at gunpoint.

In a April 1, 2013 robbery of MS&K Confectionary in Maplewood, Dawson threatened the clerk with a .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun, then fired a shot and ordered the clerk to lie down before taking $9,000 from the cash register, Fishman said.

Fishman credited special agents of the FBI with the investigation. He also thanked the Belleville, Bloomfield, Kearny, Linden, Maplewood, Newark, Paramus, Verona and West Orange police departments, along with the NJ. State Police and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, for their work on the case.

Representing the government are Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jamari Buxton and Rahul Agarwal of Fishman’s Criminal Division in Newark.
