Fairfield Softball Plays for Section 1 Crown

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield's Little League softball All-Stars will play for the Section 1 championship Wednesday at Trumbull's Unity Park. The team will play North Branford for the crown and the right to move on to the state championship round.

The Fairfield 9- and 10-year-old All-Stars also open up Section 1 competition against District 5 champion Edgewood at Ellsworth Park in Bridgeport.

Fairfield's Little League team, which is for players ages 11 and 12, completed pool play 4-0 after defeating District 1 champion Darien, 15-6, on Tuesday. Fairfield defeated North Branford, 5-1, in a pool play game Sunday. Wednesday's championship game begins at 5:30. North Branford finished pool play 3-1, including a 14-8 win in seven innings over Seymour on Tuesday.

Fairfield, which is coached by Jarry Rasmussen, is led by pitcher Brittany Romero and a hitting attack led by cleanup hitter Sarah Cotto. Gabriellla Natoli, Alice Nelson, Anna Rasmussen, Emma Houghton, Eliza Elliott, Mary Rose Finnigan, Julia Wilson, Erin Rosengren and Madison Burress are the other All-Stars for Fairfield. Black Rock defeated Fairfield during the District 2 Tournament, but Fairfield bounced back to win the championship game and has not lost since.

The 9- and 10-year-old All-Stars defeated Trumbull in Saturday's District 2 championship game. Bill Goodchild is the manager. The team includes Sophia Woolsey, Kaleigh Boyle, Abrianna Natoli, Maura Keary, Sara Fagan, Christina Carilli, Nicole Magi, Julia Warman, Luka Holderied, Kayla Bivens, Katie Goodchild and Meghan Geraghty. The other coaches are Amy Warman and Jim Keary.

The tournament runs through July 20, with the top two teams from pool play squaring off for the Section 1 championship.
