Deer to Blame in Two-Car Merritt Crash

A deer is suspected to have caused a two-car crash on the Merritt Parkway southbound between Fairfield and Westport that sent both drivers to the hospital Tuesday night.

Westport firefighters were called to the accident around 10:34 p.m. to assist the Fairfield Fire Department. Upon arrival, firefighters helped EMS treat the drivers before they were transported to the hospital with minor injuries, Assistant Westport Fire Chief Larry Conklin reported.

The accident is believed to have been caused after one of the cars struck a deer crossing the roadway, Conklin reported. The accident was turned over to Fairfield firefighters by 11:04 p.m.
