Wilton Chamber Names New Chief

A new leader will take the helm as Torie Clancy becomes executive director of the Wilton Chamber of Commerce on Feb. 14, President Ralph Slater announced Thursday.

"Wilton is a great example of a business community that is successfully balancing steady economic growth, while retaining the bucolic feel of a smaller town," Clancy, a Wilton resident, said in a statement. "This is a very unique quality to be able to leverage."

Clancy's responsibilities at the chamber will include increasing revenue and promoting the town and region as a career and business destination. She will also oversee new member recruitment, daily operations, direct projects and events.

Previously, Clancy has worked with Edelman Public Relations Worldwide and Waggener Edstrom Worldwide, handling such accounts as Samsung and Microsoft. Locally, Clancy has run the Wilton Library's Ladies Soiree and has participated in the Wilton Police Department's Citizen's Police Academy.

The position has been vacant since November, when former Executive Director Stephanie Barksdale left Wilton for a position with the United Way of Northwest Connecticut.
